BIGGEST FEARS IN A PHOTO SHOOT
K: Why do you think are your/peoples biggest fears while taking pictures and what do you think a photographer can do to help us feel more comfortable and relaxed?
G: I think as we age, we become more self-aware and self-conscious over our looks and bodies. We overthink our flaws and sometimes hold on to our childhood insecurities. Oftentimes, we magnify them and intensify them to immense proportions that prevent us from expressing ourselves in front of camera.
What is crucial to remember is that, in the midst of all this exposing and hiding, right camera in hands of a right photographer can be a blessing in disguise. It can make us look better than we really are! For example, using powerful software such as Photoshop you can correct my skin so my picture doesn’t show that acne spot or unruly eyebrows and even enhance it. The good rule of thumb to feel and be more relaxed on photos is to get to know your photographer and vice versa. I think it’s important to trust and be comfortable around each other. Photographer should be a good listener and have a good understanding of human psychology. He/she should not force the client beyond his or her limits but encourage the person to get out of their comfort zone, to give more of themselves. During our shoot mimosas helped… and applaud you for creating fun, safe and relaxing space for me to thrive.
